A Letter from the Editor

16 December 2020

Dear Friend

In the final Messenger edition of the year there’s a real mix of joy, sorrow, concern, challenge and hope: sorrow as we remember a fallen one; concern as we wonder if youth will return to church after COVID-19; challenge as leaders work together to weather the financial storm; and joy as we frame all in the news of the Advent and new life in Christ.

With an interview from across the pond, news of gifts galore, letters to the editor, and a reflection that ‘ties everything completely together’ – a good read is guaranteed!

Oh, and did I forget to mention the article about why Jesus is better than Santa?

As we move into 2021, Messenger is adjusting its output to serve you better. From January onwards we will publish both a digital and a print edition, with the print edition sent by mail directly to your home! Yes, you read that correctly – it is not a misprint, but a reality due to the collaboration and support of the Union, Conference and Mission leaders who serve you. Keep a lookout over the next few weeks for more details.

It is an incredible privilege to work with the gifted and dedicated team of David Bell (design), Sarah Jarvis (editorial secretary) and Andrew Puckering (proof-reader), who bring it all together.

Wishing you the very best for the Advent season and a hope-filled new year,

David Neal
