On Sunday 27th of August, the congregation of Dundee Seventh-Day Adventist church banded together to host a health exposition for the people of Dundee in Dundee city centre square. Although health expos have been conducted for years throughout the global church ministry, this was a first for Dundee church. After weeks of planning and preparation, the health ministry team executed the unprecedented.
Led by the Health Ministry's leader, Rhoda Fleming, the Health Ministry team tagged the expertise of various nurses and doctors from Dundee church congregation. More notably, the assistance from general members and youth, not only from Dundee church but other Scottish mission churches, created a willing team of stewards.
The health expo was purposed to allow the community of Dundee to seek and receive free health check-ups in a safe space by people who exude the warmth of Christianity. Although it was never formally stated, it was purposed in the hearts of almost 20 volunteers to not only provide health support for the Dundee community but spiritual enrichment too.
At 10am the stewards soared the streets of Dundee distributing leaflets and inviting the citizens of Dundee to the white gazebo that held the health expo. There they would find a team of people ready to register them, measure their height, their weight, check their BMI’s, engage in conversation with them, advise them, and send them on their way with a smile, some fruit, water, wellbeing books, and an invitation to church.
The event saw over 100 people in attendance with many coming from far and wide. The process flowed seamlessly from station to station, and of the 100+ people that visited, over 50 completed the stations. “For the first of its kind in Dundee City Centre, this was a tremendous experience and outreach to God’s honour and glory. Our health ministry’s team did very well” said local pastor Njabulo Ndlovu.
As the team packed their belongings away, said their goodbyes, and thanked God for the success of the day, what could only be described as showers of blessings poured from the heavens. Although no sun shined in sunny Dundee, God shined his face upon the city that day.
