Members of the local community in Hackney were left stunned by a fundraising concert courtesy of the East London School of Music. Taking place at the Clapton Community SDA Church on Bank Holiday Sunday 1st May 2022 under the astute leadership of the Managing Director, Fiona D Pacquette, the musicians gave the audience a classical treat of Mozart greats in violin, piano, flute and opera.

Notable performances included a solo piece from the Opera, ‘The Magic Flute’ by José Manuel Gil Muñoz, ‘German Dance’ by Myles Dawkins on violin and a Soprano and Bass Baritone Duet to “La ci darem la mano” (from the Opera, ‘Don Giovanni’) to great applause at its end.

Fiona D Pacquette alongside the school’s secretary, Doreen I Fray, presented certificates to six young musicians who had successfully completed and passed their music theory, piano and violin exams accredited through Trinity College London.

12 year old Eleazar Obese Amankwah – a member of the ELSOM Flute Ensemble – who was one of the six to have successfully passed his music theory examinations said: “It was quite stressful preparation for the exams but a huge relief and joy to myself and my parents when I received the good news that I had passed. My advice to anyone wanting to get involved in music is to give it a try and never stop practicing as that is the only way you will improve yourself.”

Before the concert’s final performance, Fiona D Pacquette announced that 150 pounds had been raised inside the venue with more funds expected to come in through online donations which will be used to assist students from low income backgrounds to have the opportunity to participate in the East London School of Music.
