Death of Pastor Amalendu (Amal) Bairagee

Jacques Venter (BUC Associate Exec. Secretary)

We were saddened to learn of the death of Pastor Amalendu (Amal) Bairagee on 9 May 2020. Amal was born on 20 October 1949 near Calcutta, India. On 21October 1975 Amal married Helen Simon. Their union brought about two daughters, Tina and Shikha.

After completing his secondary studies through the University of Cambridge, Amal entered Seventh-day Adventist denominational employment in 1974 within the Southern Asia Division as an educator. His educational leadership was pastoral in context leading to several Head Teacher roles throughout India, acting College President, as well as Associate Education Director for the Southern Asia Division. During this time, he completed a BLA through Spicer Memorial College (now University) and a MA through Andrews University.

In 2001 he accepted a call to Pastoral Ministry in the South England Conference (SEC) of the British Union Conference (BUC). In 2012 Amal started working part-time where he served most recently the Bedford Asian Community.

Amal sadly and suddenly succumbed to the harsh COVID-19. The family thank the SEC Administration, colleagues, family and friends for their support, condolences, and prayers during this difficult time of mourning and final farewells.

We now look forward with firm believe and hope to Christ's soon return and that glorious resurrection day.
