Death of Romola Combridge
8th March 2019
We were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Romola Combridge (née Bird) on 19 February 2019. Romola was born in Shrewsbury on 26 May 1932 to Pastor and Mrs Alfred Bird. Being a child of a pastor, Romola moved around several times until her father passed away in 1946 when she was only 14 years old. After that the family moved to Bracknell and from there to Watford.
At age 16 she began to work for the British Union Conference in September 1948 as an Office Junior. For the next 33 years she continued to work within the Seventh-day Adventist organisation at Conference, Union and Division level.
It was her love for music that brought her into the company of Brian Combridge while attending Stanborough Park church. This love grew stronger and was cemented on their wedding day, 27 March 1960. Out of this committed marriage of 57 years, until Brian's death, came two children, Nick and Melinda. Romola is also survived by her sister, Rowena Futcher, who is retired in Texas.
Romola was a wonderful servant of God and people and we look forward with her family, to Christ's soon return and that glorious resurrection day.
The funeral service will be held at the Stanborough Park church on 11 March at 11:00 am. A donation in lieu of flowers, will be collected at the service in aid of Parkinson's UK. Refreshments will be provided after the burial at the Stanborough Centre.
