Camp Hill's ADRA Bake-Off!

26th April 2018

Camp Hill church had a bake-off for ADRA on Sunday 15 April, an event that attracted most of the congregation. It proved to be a huge success! The bake-off which was held at Camp Hill's multipurpose room was filled to capacity with people having to stand out in the hallway. Thus, it presented the perfect opportunity to raise money for ADRAIMG-20180422-WA0024.

Members of the congregation could enter the competition with either a cake, pudding, cupcakes or muffins. The total amount of cakes that were entered into the competition was thirty-six. Our local Waitrose sponsored the competition and provided a £15 prize for the first-place winner and a £10 and £5 prize for the second and third place winners.

The event organiser Elder Clement Morgan who approached his local Waitrose store said, "Without hesitation they said yes and [that] I must come back for any church or future community work." Other sponsors of the event were Elder Clement Morgan, Julie Roberts and Elma Morgan.

There is certainly IMG-20180422-WA0009talent in Camp Hill as the cakes, cupcakes and puddings that were entered were well received and looked phenomenal! It was a close competition. There were cupcakes presented as a bouquet of flowers, a young girl made chocolate filled donuts, there was a cake with the decoration of the Jamaican flag, a pumpkin cake and many more.

The judges were very thorough in their work and it took quiteIMG-20180422-WA0010 a while to come to a decision. At this point the audience was getting restless as they too wanted to sample the cakes and so a "We want cake!" chant soon started. Finally, the judges came to their decision and revealed the winners. Third place went to Natifa and her daughter, second place went to Sister Brandon and first place went to Maggie with herIMG-20180422-WA0026 bouquet of cupcakes.

And then finally the audience and participants could sell and buy cakes. The cakes were sold for £1 a slice. Over the night £520 was collected and more donations are to be collected later.

It was a pleasant family-friendly evening of fundraising. IMG-20180422-WA0014There were even quizzes and a mini auction held by local minister Pastor Cyril Sweeney.

With such creative fundraising I wonder what Camp Hill will have in store for us next year?
